Media release: Most Australians don’t want population growth

Results of a significant survey showing that most Australians (a clear 51%) do not want population growth have been released today.
Sustainable Population Australia (SPA) president, Sandra Kanck, says this new survey sheds light on an increasingly controversial topic.
‘We now have solid evidence that government and business are not listening to Australian voters on the subject of population growth,’ Ms Kanck said.

News that Kelvin Thomson will not recontest his Victorian seat of Wills at the next federal election is cause for lament, says environment group Sustainable Population Australia (SPA).

SPA national president, Sandra Kanck, says that the loss of Mr Thomson from the parliament will leave Australians with not a single MP who truly understands the negative impacts of continued population growth.

Media release: World Contraception Day (September 26, 2015)

With tomorrow being World Contraception Day, environment group Sustainable Population Australia (SPA) is calling on the Australian Government to boost its foreign-aid funding with a specific increase for contraception and family planning.
SPA president Sandra Kanck says the flood of refugees and immigrants pouring into Europe is a portent for the future.
‘While the civil war in Syria and the Western invasion of Iraq are immediate causes for many of these unfortunate people being on the run, the underlying and more significant cause is overpopulation,’ Ms Kanck said.

Media release: World Population Day (11 July 2015)

Sustainable Population Australia (SPA) is calling on Australian charities and aid agencies to focus more on the sexual and reproductive health needs of women and girls around the world as refugee numbers tragically increase.
SPA national president, Sandra Kanck, says there are too many aid agencies failing to address this fundamental need.
‘Some charities respond to the dictates of conservatism and at best will simply offer words of advice to women and adolescent girls which are not much better than useless in emergency situations’.
‘Prevention is better than cure and many unwanted pregnancies can be avoided by offering females the modern contraception and education they desperately want.’
