Aquaculture – a solution to the world’s food problems, or an environmental disaster?
The AGM of Sustainable Population Australia Inc, WA Branch will be at
2 PM on Sunday 31 March
in the Kitchen Building,
on the river side of Duncraig Rd, Applecross.
Speaker: Professor Peter Cook, UWA Albany
Professor Cook is Adjunct Associate Professor, Faculty of Science, Centre of Excellence in Natural Resource Management. The centre’s staff also includes Prof. Stephen Hopper, a past director of Kew Royal Botanic Gardens, England.
Professor Cook’s interests include fisheries (especially shellfish) and aquaculture: matters very appropriate to sustainability. He was a co-author of the journal article
Environmental change: Prospects for conservation and agriculture in a southwest Australia biodiversity hotspot
Professor Cook has knowledge very pertinent to those of us in the south west of WA. He also has knowledge pertinent to the whole world. He is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Aquaculture Stewardship Council.
This month he has been to the world’s largest international conference on aquaculture in the USA where he gave the opening plenary address of the conference with the title “Can international aquaculture certification help to improve the environmental and social outcomes of the industry?”.
Professor Cook will be returning to Albany on the same day so would like to start his talk as soon as possible after 2 PM, so early arrival is preferred. Doors will be open at 1.30 for room set-up.
There is a kiosk nearby. If you like, you could have lunch at the BWG Steakhouse. This is owned and run by the Fraser Group.
