Sustainable Population Australia (SPA) proudly announces that Dr Katharine Betts has accepted the position of Patron of the organisation.

A sociologist by training, Dr Betts is vice-president of The Australian Population Research Institute (TAPRI) Adjunct Associate Professor of Sociology at Swinburne University of Technology.

TAPRI recently released results of their polling which shows Australians overwhelmingly do not want the nation’s population to be further increased.

National president of SPA, Sandra Kanck, says she is delighted to have a person of Dr Betts’s calibre coming on board in this way.

‘For over thirty years, in an intelligent and unprejudiced way, Dr Betts has pursued the issue of how Australians think about the population issue, and how the elites of our society are so out of touch with the electorate at large’ says Ms Kanck.

‘She has the distinction of being publicly savaged by former Prime Minister Bob Hawke for daring to do so.’

Dr Betts says she is truly pleased to have been approached by SPA for this role. ‘SPA is an important environmental NGO within Australian political life, being one of the few groups willing to take on our politicians and those who have vested interests in keeping Australia’s population Ponzi scheme operating’.
