My background is in behavioural science and language. I was born and raised in Melbourne to British/Aussie parents. I went straight from high school to a Behavioural Science degree (psychology and sociology) at La Trobe University and after various jobs did a Community Administration Diploma at the Aboriginal Task Force in the South Australian Institute of Technology. Then, in 1988 I started a 30 year career teaching English language to non-native speakers, moved to Brisbane and completed a Dip Ed in TESOL at the University of New England. I taught in Thailand and spent 13 years teaching at universities in Japan (and the U.K.) during which I completed a Masters of Science in Education, TESOL via Aston University, Birmingham, U.K.

I’m a life-long lover of self-learning and towards the end of my TESOL career, I became ever more aware of the predicament our species is in. Out of compassion, I decided to focus my efforts, not on responding to symptoms, but on root-causes. That’s why SPA appeals to me.

I achieved debt-free home-ownership early and advocate it for everyone as a bedrock of security, because it has freed me up to do the voluntary work I find so fulfilling. It has enabled me to distance my lifestyle from the labour force, the monetary system and food system. Most of my time involves running my share house and writing my blog for which I do considerable research.
